Group 6 · Traffic light and traffic controller signals · Question 41 of 95

What does the traffic signal indicate?

Illustration for the question: What does the traffic signal indicate?

Choose an answer to check yourself.

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Drivers must wait for a permissive traffic signal.

Explanation

Red and yellow lit together prohibit movement and announce that green is about to come on, so drivers must wait for the permissive signal. This is not a fault, and while the traffic light is working, drivers follow its signals rather than priority signs (Rules, points 7 and 173).
