Explanation

A lane is a longitudinal strip of the roadway wide enough for one row of vehicles. Here the center line splits the roadway into two halves, one per direction, and each half takes only one row of cars. Two motorcycles riding side by side do not create a second lane (Law, Article 2; Rules, point 51).
