Do you need a medical certificate to get a driving license in Armenia?
Answer
For a category B driving license you normally do not need to bring a medical certificate: the examination authority gets Armenian citizens' data from the ARMED system. You are sent for medical accreditation only if a contraindication or restriction to driving is evident when you apply, or your health declaration notes one. Foreign citizens and stateless persons submit the certificate on paper.
Details
Why it is usually not needed. The examination authority receives Armenian citizens' medical data — indications, contraindications and restrictions — automatically from ARMED, the electronic health system. A paper certificate is submitted by foreign citizens and stateless persons, and by anyone whose data cannot be retrieved from ARMED automatically.
When you are sent for medical accreditation (categories "A", "B", "BE" and subcategories "AM", "A1", "B1"). This applies to getting a license, and also to an exchange or a duplicate of a lost one. Two cases:
- When you apply, it is evident that you may have a contraindication or restriction to driving — for example a missing upper or lower limb, hand or foot, deformities that limit movement, neck or back problems, an obvious vision impairment or a missing eye, or an obvious hearing impairment;
- Your completed health declaration notes a condition that hinders driving.
The medical accreditation requirement is issued at the moment you submit your application.
What happens next
- If a medical contraindication is found, you are not admitted to the qualification exams (the license is not exchanged).
- If an indication or restriction is found, the exam is held for the category of vehicle that matches it, and a note is made in the license.
Other categories. For a first-time license in categories "C", "D", "T", "CE", "DE" and subcategories "C1", "D1", "C1E", "D1E" you must submit a certificate of medical accreditation.
Checks outside the exam. People registered at narcology or psychiatric institutions, or on the list of those deprived of the right to drive, are not admitted to the exams. This data reaches the examination authority electronically.
Do not confuse it with the test. The first part of the theory exam is a psychological test of 3 questions; it is not a medical check. More: The color perception test explained.
