What documents do you need for the driving theory exam in Armenia?

The list below applies to the theory exam for categories A, B, C and subcategories AM, A1, B1, C1.

1. Identity document:

• Armenian citizen: passport or ID card. For conscripts: a military ID. A temporary identity document or certificate issued by the Migration and Citizenship Service is also accepted.
• Foreign citizen: a passport or travel document plus a document proving lawful residence in Armenia (permanent or temporary residence card, or a special RA passport).
• Stateless person: a travel document issued by a foreign state plus a residence certificate or residence card.
• Refugees and those granted political asylum: a convention travel document. Asylum seekers: an asylum-seeker certificate. Persons under temporary protection: a temporary asylum certificate.

Note: a driving license is not issued to a person who is not registered in the State Population Register (conscripts are the exception).

2. State fee receipt for taking the exam. The theory exam amount is given in the FAQ on roadpolice.am — 3,000 AMD. If you lost the receipt, you can view it again on the roadpolice.am home page by entering the 14-digit transaction number.

What you do not need

• A driving-school completion certificate — it is not required for categories A, B, C and subcategories AM, A1, B1, C1.
• A medical certificate — usually not for Armenian citizens. The examination authority receives medical data (indications, contraindications, restrictions) automatically from ARMED, the unified electronic health system. Foreign citizens and stateless persons submit the certificate of medical accreditation on paper; paper is also used whenever the data cannot be obtained from ARMED. Category D and subcategory D1 require additional documents (a driving-school completion document and a driving license).

How the document check works

1. The examination staff member checks your documents and enters your data into the computer.
2. If you are not on the lists of people registered at narcology or psychiatric institutions or deprived of the right to drive, and there is no ground for a medical check, you present the fee receipt and are photographed.
3. Before the exam, the staff member explains how it works. You may take the test in Armenian, Russian, English, Persian or Arabic, as you choose.
4. After the exam you get your ID document and the receipt back (the receipt stamped "USED").
