What it costs The state fee for the theory exam is 3,000 AMD. You can pay online through the e-payments system, by bank transfer, or on the spot at the payment terminal in the registration and examination unit. The terminal keeps a commission: on the practical-exam page of hartak.am it is 600 AMD (13,600 instead of 13,000). For the theory exam's 3,000 AMD, the exact commission is not stated on the official sites.
How long the result is valid When you pass the theory exam, the result is immediately attached to your electronic driving-license file and you can take the practical exam within two years. If you do not pass the practical exam in that time, the theory result is considered void and the theory must be taken again.
The period changed from one year to two under Government Decree No. 979-N of 2 July 2026, effective 4 July 2026 (points 22 and 24 of the Procedure, Annex 1 to Decree No. 385-N). The FAQ on roadpolice.am and the hartak.am service page still say "within one year" / "12 months".
How to retake
- After a first failure you can retake the theory no earlier than 7 days after the day of the failed exam.
- If the second attempt is also failed, you can take each following theory exam no earlier than one month after the last failed one. This limit does not apply to the paid fast-track retake.
- The same rule applies to the practical exam if you take it within the theory result's validity.

Paid fast-track retake For a state fee set by law you can retake both the theory and the practical exam out of turn. The days and amounts depend on how many times you have failed.

These amounts are 45 times and 30 times the base fee (1,000 AMD), Law "On State Duty", Art. 20, part 1, item 1.2.
If the exam is interrupted by a technical failure If a technical failure significantly affects the exam, it is stopped, a record is drawn up, and the exam is held again within 5 working days.
